My name is Shelly, and I am a Spanish teacher at a small public district in Texas. This is my seventeenth year in a classroom. This is my 10th year at the same district. I teach Spanish 1 through Spanish 4 in what we call the honors tract, so my students stay with me all 4 years if they choose to continue that long. It is like being a department of one really. I have tremendous support from our administrative team. With the help of our Assistant Superintendent, I have been able to purchase several class sets of novels. My goal is to meet my students at their point of need with comprehensible input and TPRS teaching strategies. What I am most proud of is that I am not afraid to try new things and learn from mistakes. If something doesn’t go well, we reflect, revamp, and move on. I am thankful to teach in a district that encourages teachers to task risk and not be afraid to fail.
I have been married to the love of my life and best friend for 27 years. We enjoy movies, playing golf, cheering for our favorite sports teams, and just hanging out. We have two beautiful daughters and one amazing granddaughter. My oldest daughter is a manager for a popular restaurant chain in Texas, and my youngest daughter is a senior at the University of Arkansas. My granddaughter is 3 years old, and she amazes me every time I get the chance to spend time with her.
