Intro. about the STEM Series Test

Excellence begins with expertise.
The SiL STEM Series Test 2025 is meticulously designed by graduates from the University of Oxford and experienced frontline educators, ensuring a test that is not only academically rigorous but also pedagogically sound. Our test challenges students with carefully structured questions that assess their true language proficiency, helping to distinguish high achievers on both national and international levels.
The SiL STEM Series Test has 3 different subject papers, namely: Maths, Science and Computer/Digital Literacy. Students can choose to sit for 1 or more paper.
Please note that we have renamed the level of the papers from Year 1/2/3…to SiL Level 1/2/3… (SiL Level 1 is for those aged 7 or below, SiL Level 2 is for those aged 8 or below…) – the main reason for the change is to ensure students of the same age are taking the same set of paper, so as to allow a fairer comparison and analysis. Another reason for the change is to create a greater flexibility for students to choose higher-levelled papers, should they wish to attempt that.

Comprehensive Analysis for both Students and Schools
Beyond just a score—insights that drive progress.
Every participating student receives a Certificate of Participation along with a detailed result slip, offering a breakdown of their performance across different subject aspects. More than just reporting scores, we analyse students’ responses to identify their key strengths and areas for improvement.
Additionally, each hosting school receives an in-depth performance report, summarising trends across all year levels and highlighting common patterns in student achievement. This data-driven approach, accompanied with qualitative analysis, empowers educators with actionable insights, allowing them to refine their teaching strategies and support their students’ academic growth effectively.
For more details about our certs, result slips and school reports, please head to our Guidelines subpage (click 🖱 here), and click the “Certs & More” tab to browse through each of the listed items there.
The Award Scheme
Acknowledging effort & Celebrating achievement.
The allocation of awards is based on the following framework:
-Top Performance Award (+ Medal) for the Top 1% participants.
-Gold Award for the next 10%.
-Silver Award for the next 25%.
-Bronze Award for the next 50%.
-Certificate of Participation to all remaining participants.
*Please note that the percentile may be subject to slight adjustment with reference to the performance of each group of participants. The number of students who are attaining the same overall score is another deciding factor that affects the modulation.
About the SiL Team
Oxford's Graduate
Our Chief Test Designer brings a wealth of expertise and innovation to the SiL Testing System. As a Masters graduate from the University of Oxford’s Department of Education, Solomon’s academic journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding how students learn and excel across different subjects and key stages.
Drawing from the recent research and best practices observed, he and his team here at SiL have meticulously designed the SiL Subject Test to challenge students’ abilities while fostering growth and confidence.
Qualified Teacher Statuses (granted by the UK's Department for Education)
The SiL core team members each holds the Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has years of teaching experience both in the UK and internationally. Having worked with students across diverse cultural and educational settings, our team brings a unique perspective to the design of the test.
The SiL team’s first-hand experience in the classroom has helped shape a test that resonates with students’ real-world learning journeys (e.g. by including as many different question types as possible for the different STEM subject papers across key stages), making our SiL Testing System both accessible and practical. Whether teaching in the bustling UK classrooms or abroad, our team’s passion for education ensures every element of the test is meaningful and student-centered.
TEDx Speaker
Our Chief Test Designer is not only a skilled educator but also a thought leader in the field of education.
As a TEDx Speaker, Solomon delivered an inspiring talk on “Reflective Teaching,” emphasizing the importance of introspection and continuous growth in learning from an educator’s perspective. His philosophy of education, which values curiosity, critical thinking, and self-awareness, is embedded in the DNA of our SiL Subject Tests. This perspective has helped shape a test that doesn’t just assess performance but inspires students and educators to think deeper and aim higher.
