  1. Introduction

1.1 These Terms and Conditions govern participation in the SiL Subject Tests and all related assessments conducted by SiL (i.e. Sharing is Learning Ltd; “we,” “our,” or “us”).
1.2 By registering for and taking the test, participants, parents/guardians, schools, and national coordinators agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions.
1.3 The SiL Testing System is designed to assess students’ level of attainment in relation to the subject(s) that they sit for.

  1. Registration and Fees

2.1 Registration must be completed through a participating school or authorized national coordinator, where applicable.
2.2 Registration deadlines and procedures will be communicated via official channels. Late registrations may not be accepted through any of the two routes.
2.3 Any registration fees, where applicable, must be paid in full before the test date. Failure to complete payment will result in disqualification from participation.
2.4 Registration fees are generally non-refundable except in the following cases:

  1. Test Format and Content

3.1 For the English Subject Test, it consists of three key sections:

  • Reading (16 points) – Comprehension, inference, and textual analysis.
  • Grammar (17 points) – Sentence structure, syntax, and language accuracy.
  • Vocabulary (7 points) – Word meanings, contextual understanding, and appropriate usage.

3.2 The content of the SiL Subject Test is aligned with the British National Curriculum and may include advanced-level questions to distinguish high achievers.
3.3 Test papers are confidential and should not be disclosed, copied, or distributed before, during, or after the test.

  1. Test Administration and Conduct

4.1 The SiL Subject Tests must be administered under strict examination conditions by authorized test administrators from participating schools or national coordinators. (For more details/reminders on the procedures and timeline of the test, please refer to the Guidelines, which are available at: https://sharingislearning.com/guidelines-sample-cert-result-slip/; a separate Invigilator Guide together with the Invigilator Declaration Form will also be provided by SiL to the hosting schools and national coordinators)
4.2 Students must:

  • Arrive on time at the designated test centre.
  • Bring only permitted materials (e.g., pencils, erasers) as instructed in advance.
  • Follow all instructions given by test administrators and invigilators.

4.3 Prohibited behaviour includes but is not limited to:

  • Cheating, copying, or attempting to gain an unfair advantage.
  • Communicating with other test-takers during the test period.
  • Using unauthorized materials or electronic devices.
  • Attempting to alter, damage, or remove test papers from the examination room.

4.4 Any breach of test integrity may result in immediate disqualification, and the incident will be reported to the school/national coordinator, as well as SiL for further action.

  1. Invigilation and Incident Reporting

5.1 All invigilators must sign a Invigilator Declaration Form after the test to confirm that it was conducted fairly and securely.
5.2 If any irregularities, special incidents, or suspected cases of malpractice occur, invigilators are required to document them in the declaration form and notify our SiL Team immediately.

  1. Marking and Results

6.1 All test papers are hand-marked by our in-house team of specialists, which includes graduates and current students from Oxford and Cambridge (Oxbridge).
6.2 Results will be released within 6 to 8 weeks after the test date and will be made available to schools and national coordinators for distribution to students.
6.3 Every student will receive:

  • A Certificate of Participation (with different levels of awards; for more details on the SiL Award Scheme for the Subject Tests, please refer to this page, under “Levels of Awards, Sample Certificate & Result Slip”: https://sharingislearning.com/guidelines-sample-cert-result-slip/).
  • A Detailed Result Slip, including a breakdown of answers and performance analysis.

6.4 Hosting schools will receive a Comprehensive School Report, detailing:

  • The overall performance of students across year levels.
  • Key strengths and weaknesses observed.
  • Statistical analysis of performance trends.

  1. Appeals and Score Reviews

7.1 If a student or school believes that a marking error has occurred, they may request a score review within 14 days of receiving results.
7.2 A review request must be submitted in writing and may be subject to an appeal fee.
7.3 If an error is confirmed during the review, the appeal fee will be refunded, and an updated certificate and result slip will be issued.
7.4 The decision made by the review panel is final and binding.

  1. Data Protection and Privacy

8.1 SiL complies with UK Data Protection laws (GDPR) and ensures that all personal data collected is handled securely.
8.2 Information provided by participants will be used solely for the purpose of test administration, result processing, and certification.
8.3 Student data will not be shared with third parties without explicit consent, except where required by law.

8.4 We will not disclose the results of school entry test-takers on our website, but we will release the results of the individual entry ones, mainly because it is easier for the parents to look up our website to search for the result instead of waiting for the national coordinator to contact them one by one.

9.2 Test questions, answer keys, and assessment criteria may not be reproduced, published, or distributed in any form without prior written permission.

  • Any loss of opportunity or academic disadvantage due to test results.
  • Errors caused by incorrect information submitted by participants or test administrators.
  • Unforeseen issues that affect test delivery that are beyond our control.
